A Camping List to Give Your Group
Prepare your dads for the weekend with a camping list to give your group
Dads and Kids Camping Weekend has taught our children the importance of socialization and sharing. They have also learned ways to become independent and how to watch out for each other.
Each year they have an opportunity to participate in something that is truly unique and enriching. Because we have so much to cover in a weekend, a camping list to give to your group is essential.
If you’re looking to throw your own Dads & Kids Camping Weekend, it will most certainly start off small, with perhaps five or ten families. Once you get the hang of it, my experience is that planning for 50 or 100 families is no more difficult and only a bit more time consuming.
One of the most important things you can do for your group when you’re planning is to give them a camping list of the itinerary for the weekend. This will help them pack and plan accordingly.
You’ll want to title your email, something like, “Dads & Kids Camping Announcement – Please Read“, so that it gets opened and read in a sufficient amount of time.
I also send it as “high priority” (because it is relative to work and any other emails) with an exclamation mark and a simple “Attached is an announcement. Please read now.” in the body of the email itself.
In the camping list, you’ll include information about:
the campground
check-in times
campground amenities
the entertainment (which night, what time and where)
the handing out of souvenir t-shirts
recommended food supplies
predicted weather conditions and clothing suggestions
Also include a map of the campground so dads can see where their site is relative to their friends, the bathrooms and the entertainment. These are almost always available at the campground when checking in but this will assist those dads—most of us—who will forget to pick one up at check-in.
Also, I include my cell phone number for dads to call me with any issues when they arrive on the first evening. I do keep it with me and turned on, but only for that first night. The rest of the weekend it’s just dad and kids time.
