3 Suggestions for Kids Camping Gear

Kids camping gear for those common trials and tribulations

In general, kids don’t need a whole lot of help when it comes to camping, especially in a large group like Dads & Kids Camping Weekend. They tend to wear the same jeans for the weekend, so bringing clean shirts and plenty of clean underwear is most important. When you’re planning your weekend, it’s still sometimes fun to pick up kids camping gear just for the heck of it.

Coghlan’s 4 Function Whistle

Maybe it’s a good idea to pick up one of these for each person in your party. Are you trying to find one another? Just blow the whistle. Even better, it comes with a thermometer, magnifier and compass all built-in.

Benefits: Finding your kids and them finding you.

Luggable Loo

This is a hidden gem in the kids camping gear checklist. If your big kids don’t want to go to bathroom in the public facilities, there might be a bigger problem there, but if your littler kids can’t make it to the big bathrooms, many families bring around a portable potty just in case.

Benefits: Less time running back and forth to the bathroom with your toddler.

Camping Light

Whether you opt for a flashlight or a battery-powered lantern, make sure your kids know where they’re going in the dark to avoid any slips and falls.

Benefits: Seeing in the dark.

Other good ideas for kids camping gear—depending on what your agenda looks like—could be life jackets, hiking shoes, big nets and good swim suits. Definitely remember the swim suits if you’re going to be camping near a lake or river.

These items aren’t completely neccessary, but you can see how they’d be helpful during any camping trip. If you’ve tried any of them, you might feel inclined to tell the other dads to add them to their own list of kids camping gear.

It’s best to be prepared, and when you see all the other smart dads who thought ahead about their kids safety in the dark and open wilderness you’re going to be wishing you read this article ahead of time!
