4 Best Kinds of Campsites for Kids

Decide on a theme and you’ll quickly discover campsites for kids that fit your group

When choosing a campsite for kids and your Dads and Kids Camping weekend, it is best to focus on the age group that is going camping. There are many campsites that offer activities, but you should be chosing the one that best fits your little campers and can accommodate their interests.

The best way to find out what a campground offers in terms of the activities and programs is to contact them directly and make your inquiries. Most campgrounds have a list of amenities and an activity calendar that they can email to you.

Questions to ask when you call:

  • How do the restrooms and showers operate? Are the showers coin-operated? Are the bathrooms indoors?

  • Do they offer cabins? Do they have enough cabins to fit your whole group? Do they have any available for kids with special needs?

  • Do they offer activities for older kids like hiking, horseback riding, fishing, hiking or swimming? Do they offer hiking guides?

  • What kind of accommodations do they have for younger kids? Do they have a playground? Are there lifeguards at the beach? Is there any type of play-safe area? Hiking trails can also be great for younger kids, since they tend to have a lot of energy to burn.

Activity-driven camping

Some campgrounds have amusement parks nearby, which are great for those who wish to have a different kind of camping experience. These campgrounds also tend to have pools and supervised kids activities. Some offer miniature golf, which can be a great group activity for your Dads and Kids Camping weekend.

Educational camping

If your group is looking for a campsite that offers an educational experience, picking one deep in the wilderness is a great idea. Campsites that offer mountain biking trails, extensive hiking and rock climbing are educational and also some of the best campsites for kids. This type of trip allows them to learn about nature in a controlled environment.

Water-logged camping

Campsites that are near lakes and rivers offer campers an exciting experience. Kids can fish in the lakes or rivers, go canoeing or even try guided whitewater-rafting trips. Camping near a beach might be a fun adventure for kids because they can learn how to surf, dig for clams to eat or just enjoy combing for shells.

Historic camping

Campgrounds near national monuments are one other type of best campsites for kids. Kids can explore different monuments and go on tours. There are a lot of national monuments all around the country to choose from.

No matter what kind of camping you want to do with your group, it is best to find a campsite that is a lot of fun for the kids. They’ll have a great time and memories that they will always treasure.
